In 1920 the first Burlington Northern Railroad Depot was the small wooden structure.  It was replaced by the present brick building in 1928.

The depot was closed in 1985.  IN 1994, volunteers who wanted to preserve the history of the town of Bayard were able to secure the site as a museum.  They wrote grants and sold lifetime memberships to generate enough capital to refurbish the interior, plant a lawn and erect a hand-made ironworks fence.  The grand opening was held in the summer of 1999.
